Atlantis Resort Paradise Island

This resort is quite similar to the Dubai one, but now it is part of the Marriott group. It also has the Aquaventure Water Park with the Mayan temple and delicious restaurants by Gordon Ramsey.

This resort is perfect whether you are travelling with kids or with your partner. This one is with no doubt of the best hotels in the whole world.

Paradise Island

In addition to the Atlantis Resort and the Aquaventure Water Park, this island has incredible beaches, a beautiful Marina and a Golf Course. It is connected to Nassau by two bridges, so it won’t be challenging to go back downtown (in case you want to leave Paradise).

Ardastra Gardens & Wildlife Conservation Centre

If you are in Nassau and haven’t enjoyed the beautiful nature of The Bahamas, this spot is perfect for you. The Gardens is the home of the marching flamingos who love to entertain visitors by marching in formation.

This Conservation Centre is perfect for the whole family, as children would get awareness regarding endangered species. Some Iguana species and the Bahama parrot are unique from this place.

Nassau Straw Market

In Downtown Bay Street, a market full of women continues a tradition from decades ago. In 1940 since the decline of the sponging industry, many Bahamian women started using palm trees and sisal plant’s leaves to create fishing traps and baskets to increase their incomes.

Nowadays, they are creating any class of souvenirs with the same old technique. So, if you are planning a unique souvenir, this is the place you have to visit.

Pirates Nassau Museum

If you get caught on a rainy day, you can come and visit the Pirates Nassau Museum. It is remarkable for kids as they can enjoy theatrical exhibitions, see actual pirate equipment, and explore a replica of the renowned pirate ship Revenge.

You will be able to learn historical facts about the notorious Blackbeard and the pirate past of Nassau.

National Art Gallery of the Bahamas

Located in a sizeable Neoclassical mansion, this gallery is the most important museum in the country. The collection includes sculptures, reproductions, sketches and textiles from Bahamian artists.

William Henry Doyle, a former Chief Justice of the Bahamas, built the oldest section of the mansion in the 1860s. He made sure the place was well erected. Therefore, it is also a fantastic place to discover the Bahamian architecture of the nineteenth century.

Queen’s Staircase

These stairs lead to Fort Fincastle, the highest point on the island. Slaves cut the sixty-six steps into solid limestone in the late eighteenth century.

A hundred-year after its completion by the slaves, the stairs were named Queen’s Staircase to honour Queen Victoria, who had a significant role in abolishing slavery in the Bahamas.

Downtown and Bay Street

This is the main touristic street of Nassau. Coming here is great if you want to find discounted perfumes, jewellery and great souvenirs. Avoid this place if you don’t like multitudes, as most cruise ship passengers come straight here in their few free hours in the country.

Some local retailers might be a bit aggressive to get your attention, but do not worry; a polite and robust “no, thank you” will blow them away.
